IIAS A/IFAC Workshop on

New Approaches in Dynamic Optimization to Assessment of Economic and Environmental Systems

5-7 December 2006, IIASA, Laxenburg, Austria

Workshop goals

The first goal is to present a few significant issues from areas of management of economic, environmental and social systems, which may initiate development of new (cross-disciplinary) mathematical methods.

The second goal is to give examples of modern mathematical techniques applicable (or potentially applicable) to assessment of economic, environmental and social dynamics. This goal is complementary.

The third goal is to overview new methodological challenges inspired by general phenomena like, for example, conflict and cooperation, adaptation, multi-agent systems, etc.

Perspectives in IFAC's context

One of IFAC's goals is to promote development of theory and methods of control for systems arising in various applications. In pursuing this goal, IFAC maintains relationships with a number of international research institutions; IIASA is one of them. The workshop, being part of this activity in 2006, is expected to explore new ways of strengthening cross-disciplinary collaboration in topical areas of control and decision making.

Perspectives in IIASA's context

IIASA's Dynamic Systems group anticipates that the workshop will extend its scope in applied research, bring in new ideas on methodology, and develop its network.

Proceedings

It could be decided that the workshop's proceedings will be published as a special volume or a special issue of a journal.
